For some reason tonight I cannot seem to get my page numbers to flow as they should (and have all along.. :/ )

When I load a document/chapter it seems to want to start it's own new section, and the 'Section Start” option in Page Numbering is grayed out so that I cannot uncheck it! I've looked for the answer for an hour and still no luck, so does anyone know how to remove a section start from a page or document when the check box is grayed out?

Also, my page numbers no long show correctly in the Pages Panel, and in the ID Book list (showing all the chapters) the page numbers do not reflect what is actually on the pages. Weird…and I'm fed up and stopping for now.

      Any help is appreciated.

This post may or may not help with the wrong page numbers:

As for the section start checkbox: It is always grayed out for the first page of the document (because that's always a section start). Which document page are you trying to change? Are you double-clicking on the little black triangle above that page?

David, you're a life saver! That did the trick..and come to think of it, I think I may have read something about this numbering setting before. For the life of me I have no idea how “section numbering” got changed to “absolute..” but resetting it fixed the problem.

…sometimes I think they should sell InDesign with yearly supply of Excedrin, but I'm glad you guys watch over this site.

InDesign 6 freezes every time I try to remove a section start. David, the above link leads to dead link. Please help.

Sorry about that… I fixed the link. I hope that helps!

400-page doc starts on verso page. Second section that I want to delete starts on what would be p. 3 if section did not start there. I’ve tried the various kludges in this archive to no avail. It freezes every time and I have to force shutdown.

Dunno if this matters but the 2-page first section is separated. It is not a spread.

      Any ideas?

      Thanks.

Thanks, David. I suspect the .indd file is corrupt after many requested changes to the design, including allowing pages to start on either verso or recto page. I am unable to remove the section heading and there’s no time to redo it from scratch. I appreciate your reply.

Bonnie–suppose you add two pages after that bad section start? Then re-thread the text to it. Then delete the bad section start page and one of the new ones you added (that way you’ll be on a recto again)?
