This is across the board at our shop…

Go to save a pdf file over one of the same name and we get:

“Cannot save to file “name.pdf”. You may

not have permission or the file may be in use.”

The old pdf isn't highlighted in the Finder or anything.

This has only been a problem since upgrading from CS3 to CS5.

Thanks for any suggestions! – Jay

That's type of error you'd get if the file was already open in Acrobat or if you have a permissions issue on the server.

I know. It's not already open and it's in a folder on my desktop.

All of our designers are having this problem.

Very strange. Definitely repair permissions. Restart Acrobat. You're not opening these off a server are you? I haven't heard of this problem.

Repairing permissions does sound like the way to go. It could be some weird artifact of the upgrade, also, if it's across multiple machines and everyone did the jump from CS3 to CS4. Deleting preferences might help, in that case.

Permissions seemed to work. Thank you gentlemen! – j

I had this exact same problem when I switched over from CS3 to CS5. I'll try repairing permissions and hope it solves the problem.

      cheers
