So I want to only print the black separation for screen printing.

However, when I got to print and then output, all of my options are grayed out except for composite gray and composite RGB.

I can't access the separations or composite cmyk.

My printer is an inkjet, does this have anything to do with it? I can't even export to pdf and make the separations.

You cannot print separation with InDesign if you don't have a PostScript printer selected.

You can select “PostScript File” instead of a printer, so you can select separation and produce a PS document; then you can open the PS document with Acrobat Pro to convert it in a PDF.

      Hope this can help

It did partially, I am waiting to hear of the results from the screen printer.

One more question; is there a way to turn off the CMY plates when sending to pdf and more importantly to make the pdf have the separations? I've seen it done in CS4 but I'm in CS3.

      Thank you for the answers!

Acrobat Pro has (more or less) a RIP built into it, so if you have Acrobat Pro, it's easy to make pre-separated PDFs, where each plate is on its own page. See https://creativepro.com/create-color-separated-pdfs.php

You can turn on/off plates by clicking Ink Manager.

Thank you both for the fantastic help.

I just created a pdf that's separated and the screen print came out great. Thank you!
