Can keyboard shortcuts be assigned to character styles?

      I'm looking to assign keyboard shortcuts to some character styles (italic, bold, etc). From some investigation it seems it can be done for paragraph styles if you have a Num Lock keyboard (which I haven't got). Does anyone know if it can be done (a) for character styles, and (b) without a Num Lock keyboard?

      This has been a problem for users for many years. So frustrating! So I finally found a way to do it by getting DTP Tools to write a plug-in to enable ANY shortcut for ANY styles, and they put it in Blatner Tools (blatnertools.com).
