Broken Hyperlinks

I have worked on an internal publication for my company that is exported as an interactive pdf because my InDesign file contains buttons and hyperlinks. Everything works fine when the file is exported and viewed with Adobe Acrobat. However, problems arise when the file is uploaded to our intranet and viewed with a cloud-based version of Acrobat. All the links are broken.

I have absolutely no idea why this is happening or what to do to prevent this from happening. Any insight or ideas the InDesign community might have is greatly appreciated.

      Thank you in advance.

      J.P.

      Hi John

Without more detail about the format of the hyperlinks and locations of linked files, I’d have to guess that the file:// path is reachable from your computer when you view the file in Acrobat (I.e. even if the files are on your intranet, your file system can access them directly), but when you use the cloud version of Acrobat the exported Indesign file is being uploaded to Adobe cloud and the file:// link is not reachable in the same form from there? I don’t use the cloud version of Acrobat but I’m imagining that’s how it would work, same as cloud Word accessing files from OneDrive/Sharepoint but not your local/network files.

I tried to edit my reply but I think I missed the window, but to add, I think if the hyperlinks are to externally-available https:// web addresses then it should work, but it sounds like the links are to private network/intranet files which could be a problem. I’m wondering why you would use a cloud-based Acrobat though, is that for editing functionality? Can the Indesign-exported file and linked files not be viewed with Acrobat web browser plug-in?

      Nick,

Thank you for your reply. You raised questions I am unable to answer at this time. The project is for benefits and enrollment. I had a meeting to discuss the issue with my contact person, but I had little to offer as I have never dealt with a situation like this (neither has my boss). I am unsure what questions I need to ask and I do not know how or why users are accessing a cloud-based version of Acrobat either. My typical work is done using Adobe Creative Cloud applications on my desktop.

I am sorry I can’t offer more information. Our firm does have a technology support dept. which will most likely have a solution, but I was hoping to have to have something intelligent to say.

      John.

I’ve encountered this same issue and can’t edit the boxes meant as prompts. My only work around has been to add a note to tell people the functionality only works when downloading or opening in Desktop App of Adobe or Adobe Reader.
