Hi everyone, i've got a slight problem i was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

My main question is whether or not it is possible to add a 3 document to a book but only use page 2 of that particular document when exporting? I understand this sounds like a strange question and most answers would be to simply split the 3 page document before adding it to the book – without going into detail let me just say this is not possible/a good solution in this case.

Basically, I have hundreds of 1-3 page indesign files that i need to put into many books.
Each book would use about 50 out of this pool of hundreds and each book would be unique in the order that the files are added. Quite often not all of the pages of the smaller files are needed and so i need to be able to select the page range to add to a book.
Each books order and page range options (if possible) would be edited a few times a year.

Any ideas? The answer doesnt have to be a a book either, thats just what i was thinking.

Instead of piecing them together with the book panel, you might consider placing one INDD file into another:

      Thanks David!

Unfortunately the InDesign files have layers and some have forms and buttons, after reading in the comments of the article and testing it for myself, they did not carry across. Maybe i should have said this at the beginning sorry.

Your suggestion may still be workable if I can way around those few files that are causing the problem with layers etc.

Ok, i have been looking into this suggestion for a week or so now and i am hoping for another suggestion?

I have not been able to overcome the forms/buttons issue of not being active once the indesign document is placed within another indesign document and then exported to pdf.

I was hoping that there is a solution via scripting perhaps, to only insert page 2 of a 5 page document into a book.

Another possible solution that i thought of is creating a script that utilises the “Move Page” feature. Although i do not know much about move page, and whether this would or would not be possible or a solution.
