Blank Background and Text disappeared

      Please I Need Urgent Help!

      I am currently working on an annual report (over 200 pages) for a client, some of my background just disappeared and I can’t see the text on the pages again. The page numbers is also showing ‘PB’ instead of the corresponding page numbers. The table I created on the pages are still visible but my linked text (and frame) and the background are no longer visible.

      Please I can I recover this?

      PB means “pasteboard” so perhaps things moved to the pasteboard?
      Are you in Preview mode? If you choose the Selection tool and press Command-A (or Ctrl-a on windows) do you see objects selected but maybe cannot see them?

      I saw your photos on Facebook, Matthew. I am wondering if maybe something is bad with your document. Use File > Export to save it as an IDML file and then open the IDML file. Does that help?

      Thank you David. I have exported the file to IDML, he same thing still happened on opening the file. I even packaged the file prior to this error, and saved in another location on my system (as a backup). When I got the error message on the original Indesign document, I restarted my computer and opened the original file – saw the same error page. I opened the file I packed as backup, it’s been affected too. Same thing with the IDML file. I have never come across such error. I wanted to copy and move all the text on that document to another document, but the ones on the error page are not accessible.

      Wow. I’m not sure what is going on. Here’s another person from a few years ago:

      All pages say "PB"


      If you add new pages, do they come in properly?

      Thank you David. Out of frustration, I shutdown my computer and went to bed. When I got to the office this morning, I decided open the IDML in the packaged file instead of the main InDesign file, it opened, the blank pages are gone, the PB has changed to the actual page numbers just that some of my text have moved to the Paste Board (as you said earlier). Now I just need to move them back to place, resave and repackage in a new destination on my computer.

      I’m sorted. Thank you so much.

      I’m sure the error must have come from the excel file I imported. The client would shot me in the head :D
