When I draw a text box, a black border automatically appears. I can’t figure out how to turn it off. Any suggestions?

That’s basically the default for that kind of tool. You can change the defaults by setting them when no objects are selected on the page:

But it seems as though everything is set to “no fill” or “no color.” There must be a hidden setting somewhere.

Ok … I went to the objects pallet … I selected each object setting, one at a time, until one of them indicated a black border. Changed the setting to no line, problem solved.
