I have a new one. A client supplied Word file with a bibliography. It seems to be interactive in Word somehow… click in the biblio and all of the entries have a gray highlight. If I click on one (of what I assume is where the reference is in the text) it also turns gray. However, when I bring this into InDesign (I have already tagged the file with styles), the bibliography just comes in as plain text. And no links to the references. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.

Do you actually mean endnotes because a bibliography should simply be a list of works which the author(s) used.

I know how to do foot/end notes. This job has a bibliography that has been converted to static text. I haven’t heard back from the author yet. I “would like” for it to work as, or be converted to end notes… you can just change the title to Bibliography. With end notes you can have the reference linked to the note, and reverse. No can do with the bibliography as far as I can see.

Wow that’s a new on me. I suspect there is no exact corollary in InDesign.

The interactive bibliography comes from Word’s neato Reference tab which can do all sorts of slick things, such as look up and include bibliographic references:

I couldn’t find anything on converting Word bibliography’s to x-refs or actual end notes, but I did find a bunch of tutorials for importing/converting them into Endnote, which add an Endnote tab to Word. Doesn’t help here I assume but interesting nevertheless:
