I'm looking for a different way to do the following. I've encountered this a number of times.

I have a brochure to artwork and the left hand page of the spread is 'White' and the right hand page is 'Black”. I begin to set up all my paragraph styles for the 'White' page, I start with a 'Body Copy Style' with a text colour black. I continue with other styles based on this, Bold, Paragraph Headers, Lists, Sub Headers, Headers, Pull Quote etc. I can end up with an extensive set of paragraph styles that work on a 'White' page.

Now this is the part where i'm looking for a better solution. I generally group all these styles and name the group 'For White Pages' and then duplicate the group and name it 'For Black Pages'. I then edit the 'Body Copy Style' in the 'For Black Pages' group and change the text colour to white so the text can be seen on the black page.

This may sound fairly simple but it can become a little complicated where certain style maybe based on others, you really have to stay on top of it all. It could be a nightmare to hand over to somebody else.

It's not always as clear cut as black and white colours and thats why i'd rather control the colours with styles rather than just selecting the copy and colouring with the swatch palette.

Does anyone have any alternative ways of doing this, am I just over complicating my styles?

      Thanks

      Hi

This might seem too simple a solution, but if I were doing this project I would do exactly the same as you but instead of grouping the styles I would rename the styles themselves. So Body Copy Style would become 'WHITE Body Copy Style' and the alternative one would be 'BLACK Body Copy Style'.

After renaming all the styles, I would then make the palette sort them in order. You will end up with a list of all the Black ones followed by a list of all the White ones. As they have different names it would be easier to know where you are up to.

Sorry if this answer is too simple, just thought I'd throw it out there!

I would agree with Johnny. Sometimes the easiest solution is the best one. The styles themselves are not too complicated, it's just a matter of keeping all of the elements in order.
