      Hello,
I wrote a photo ebook that I’m ready to publish. The book was formatted with Indesign CC and thanks to Anne-Marie Concepción’s video on Lynda.com I had no problems. What is giving me an issue is previewing the book. I don’t own a Kindle and unless I’m forced to I don’t want to buy one. I used Adobe Digital Editions but it either cuts off the bottom of my photos or the photos are too small. I’ve looked at other published epubs on Digital Editions and I see the same results, I haven’t found one epub where the images are sized correctly. The images look fine on a program named Sumatra but the text leading is ignored with this program.
      So my questions are
1-Is there a reliable software to preview an epub or must I buy or borrow a Kindle?
2-Will a Kindle automatically resize my images to fit on a page or cut them off? The book is formatted for one photo per page no text.
      Thanks for reading this,
      Rich
PS-How do I upload a profile photo? I don’t see an option for that under edit profile.

Try Kindle Previewer available from Amazon’s webpage, Kindle Publishing Programs.

Are you specifically looking for a Desktop based reader? If not, you could try Readium-it is available as a free app on Chrome web store.

Hi Rich, photos are being pulled from Gravatar (https://gravatar.com) … be sure you use the same email address there that you used to log in to the forums.

If you’ll be publishing to a Kindle then you definitely need Kindle Previewer, mentioned above. I cover this in the title, in the videos on ID > Kindle (toward the end of the title).

Other on-screen readers are Readium, as Pooja said, and ePubReader, a free extension to Firefox, and iBook, if you’re on a Mac running Mavericks.

Thank you to everyone that replied. I tried the Kindle Previewer and it worked well but when I borrowed a Kindle Fire I found a new problem. My images displayed darker on the Kindle than on my laptop or desktop monitor. So to anyone else who is testing out a photo book, there is no substitute for previewing on the actual device.

Rich, I use calibre. It’s much more than just a viewer, too.
