Beachball Hell – Demonic Possession

I was working on an InDesign CC 2015 file with more than 700 anchored objects. Everything was going well until I tried to save a copy of the file as a backup. The beachball reared its ugly head and I had to force quite.

After that, InDesign refused open any file. I trashed the prefs and the recovery files. Nothing helped, and it continue to refuse to open ANY file. I decided to simply uninstall. I selected NOT to keep prefs, etc., and reinstalled. After reinstalling, InDesign continues to behave the same way! What? I think I am dealing with demonic possession.

In short, InDesign will not open A N Y file.

I installed CC 2017 for the heck of it, and it opens files…no beachballs. However, I need 2015 for some plugins.

      Any thoughts?

Michael: sorry your post got held for moderation… maybe the forum was concerned about the demons. ;-)

That does sound pretty terrible. My suggestion would be to try to log in to a different account on your computer (like a guest account or just create a new user, then log in there). See if the problem still happens there. If not, then it’s probably something else on your system.

If it still happens, then it’s probably one of those plug-ins, or a bad font, or something like that.

      David,

No problem. It would be nice if the forum told you that your message was being held…I though the dem0nic possession was infecting this site as well!

I logged in as a guest and it seemed to unstick everything. Strangely when I went logged out of the guest account and logged back into my primary
account and opened InDesign 2015, it opened (recovered) a very old document, even though I had removed all the prefs and recovery files. Huh? Wacky stuff.

      Michael
