      Hi there,

I have about fifty million business cards that I have batched out from a spreadsheet using Data Merge. All is well and good, but the PM is insisting on individual PDFs, all named with the name on the card. Ugh.

Since the <name> tag still exists in the cards on each person’s name, can anyone think of a clever way of extracting that info out? I know I can batch rename in Bridge, but there’s not a tag option is there?

      Thanks

No answer I’m afraid, just “thinking out loud.” I guess I have a query for the scripters. Would it be possible to modify the PEU script to meet Salieri’s needs? It already references page numbers, perhaps there’s a way to use the tag on each page?

I am bumping this one as the problem has come up again, as it always does when using Data Merge. What do other users do when they have to disassemble a data merged document? Is there some wrinkle I am missing that helps out?

Have a google for “pdf splitter using bookmark for filename”
      – there are a number of PDF splitter programs about which might meet your needs (I haven’t tried them). If you can use the style for the name on the card to produce bookmarks (via a TOC) in the massive PDF, then the splitter can extract individual files, named by bookmark. Apparently.
      Good luck,
      Chris
