      Hi,

I need to add cross referencing to an existing large document for a couple of specific phrases.

For example whenever the words ‘Tomato Paste’ appears in a specific paragraph style I want a page number appended, for example “(see page xxx)”. There are many instances of the phrase so I wish to automate the process.

      Can anyone help please ?

Does it have to be a real cross-reference (in the cross-references panel)? If not, then you could probably just use the Find/Change dialog box for this. For example, search for “Tomato Paste” and replace with “Tomato Paste (see page xxx)”. You can use the Find Format section at the bottom of Find/Change to control which paragraph style the text should appear it.

Thanks. It does have to be a real cross-reference, to preserve the correct page numbering if anything changes in future. I’ve started doing it manually as you suggest by searching for the text in a particular style then adding a Xref. Tedious.

At the moment, update of this old script for a client to make it work like what you mean! ;-)
