      Hello all!

OK, I might have already pulled my hair out with this one. Not sure where I am going wrong…

We had a barcode generated from Bowker. We placed the .eps barcode file into indesign and used -transform-scale to scale it to 1.75 x1. A few things seem to happen once this was done.

When a test print is done on the NON scaled version it scans every time. When the scaled version is printed it will not scan. Also if I open the indesign scaled version in Photoshop it shows the black barcode as only 90% black with a tad bit of other color mixed in I think.

Any idea as to the sure fire correct way to take a bowker eps barcode file and re-size while retaining the high rez and pure black of the barcode itself? I know I am missing something here.

Any help would be so greatly appreciated!!

haven't used that barcode software but since it generates an EPS, its probably a vector graphic (scalable and resolution independent) format rather than raster (photoshop – fixed resolution pixels only) so i'd open it in adobe illustrator. if the lines are still coming up as a colour other than black, i'd make the barcode black here and save it again, then place it into indesign and see if this rectifies the situation.

I definitely would not open the EPS in photoshop. That is a mistake a lot of people make. Bad things often happen.

When you say you scale it 1.75 x 1, I'm not sure what you mean. Are you scaling it proportionally 175%, or scaling it disproportionally 175% horizontal and 100% vertical? That doesn't seem like a winning solution.

Another option would be to use the barcode software from teacup software; they have an ISBN barcode creator tool as part of their package: https://teacupsoftware.com/prod…..er1_0.html
