Automatic line numbering

I need something that will automatically number the lines in a prose passage (i.e. no line breaks, except for paragraph breaks) so that I can reference that line number later on when talking about specific words and excerpts from the passage. Because InDesign doesn't see the text as being on separate lines, my first thought was to create a script that would find the height of the space between the word and the top of the text box, and then return a line number based on that divided by the height of each line of text which I could then cross reference.

I've never written a script before, so I would appreciate any thoughts about whether or not this is possible, and whether this is the best way to approach this problem.

      Thanks

Harbs from in-tools has something that might do the job. Go to:

I'm aware of that script, and have used it before, but it doesn't do exactly what I need. I need something that will track the location of spsecific words in a passage, so that I can later insert a cross reference to the line they're in, similar to what InDesign can already do with cross references to pages.
