Does anyone know if it's possible to automate the insertion of Index markers based on styles – either paragraph styles or character styles or just based on a type face style?
I am building rock climbing guidebooks and typically the books have 600-1000 climbing routes. Each route has a title line with a complex structure and then a description beneath (separated usually by a paragraph return). The entire route name line has the title with a certain type style, a different style for the route rating, dingbats for the quality (stars) and a check box for the reader to check off whether they have climbed the route or not. 4 different type styles on the same line!
I would like to have this entire line throughout the book marked as indexed. My method thus far is to hand-highlight these lines and use the Index palette to mark them, then use the palette to generate indexes for each chapter, then export into a .txt file, compile all chapters this way, then open in Microsoft Excel, and use the sort functions in Excel. Of course this involves shenanigans to get all the information tab-delimited.
Wow! It really seems like there should be a way to automate all this? At the very least to automate the route name lines with index markers rather than selecting each line by hand?
