Is there a way to use the auto page number feature for page numbers on different layers in a document? So far, I haven’t had any luck trying to figure out a solution.
I have a catalog that is made up of 10 separate ID files (CS6). This catalog will go out in two different drops…meaning that drop 1 will be paginated one way, and drop 2 will have pages usually switched around to “look” different (therefore a different pagination).
Each file contains 2 pages in spread format (facing pages). The first spread in the folder is setup to have its page # start on page 2. The remaining spreads in the folder are setup for Automatic page numbering.
I add the drop 1 spreads to an indesign book and like magic the book is numbered correctly and anytime I move a spread around (other than the 2/3) the pages will repaginate themselves. This is perfect. Saves me from having to manually go in and type the page numbers by hand. I repeat this for the files for drop 2 as well.
This works for most of us in the office except for one brand of catalogs. They use layers for their drops. So Layer 1 is drop 1, and layer is drop 2, etc. Each layer essentially has a different page layout and therefore different pagination.
Is there someway to make that so that I can get the page numbers on the Drop 1 layer to be correct when added to the book, and then have the page numbers on the drop 2 layer also have the correct pagination (but different from drop 1) when added to say another book file? I tried it and it doesn’t work, because auto page number just picks up the page numbers from the pages panel.
Would having different master pages setup for the different layers in a file be a solution? As of right now, I don’t think there is a solution for that one team.
Thanks
