Applying Nested or Grep Styles to Data Merge?

I have a data merge document for an order form that I created for a product catalog. I created a table, and found a script so that I could apply data merge content to the table. (believe I found it on here, tremendous help.) See the set up that I have below(first image, second image is what it looks like after the merge). It works perfectly. The issue i’m having now is that I would like to adjust the way each product item# is styled. I need the prefix and suffix of the item# to be a different style, while the middle 5 numbers to be bigger and bolded. So 000-12345-000, I want the beginning 3 and last 3 digits to be different.

I’ve done some quick research and it seems that Grep or nested styles would be handy here. I’m not sure which would work in conjunction with data merge. Is this possible?

What the data merge gives me back

This is how I want the item#’s to look like after I do the data merge.

I appreciate any help! Thank you.

Yes, I think either nested or grep styles would work great for that. You need to create a character style for the red text. There are a number of tutorials on this site at lynda.com on those topics. For example: https://creativepro.com/5-cool-things-you-can-do-with-grep-styles.php

The grep code for “five digits in a row with dashes on either side” is -\d{5}-

Thanks for the help! I figured it out. I thought I wasn’t doing it right, but then I realized I had the character AND paragraph style turned on. I turned off the character style and it applied the grep style.
