I have a client that would like to make a school workbook as a tablet app.
Part of the brief is to make the “workbook” behave like a conventional workbook in that after reading the text, there are questions that need to be answered. If an app made from InDesign behaves anything like an interactive PDF made from InDesign, this would allow:
- checkboxes
- radio buttons
- text fields
- dropdown fields
However, the client would like a level of interactivity that I think is unlikely using InDesign directly off-the-shelf. The client would like the ability for students to draw diagrams, graphs and charts. The client is also considering other content such as find-a-words, crosswords, etc.
Knowing the limitations of the software, I have suggested that the client rephrase the questions so that they fit the limitations of the software. Unfortunately for me, the client insists on the answers being prepared as they traditionally have been prepared, as to eliminate the likelihood of chance being a factor in preparing the correct answer.
The other part of the brief is that once the answers are given, they are then submitted to the teacher for marking as opposed to self-answered like many demos that I have seen. Once again, I do not know if this will be possible from an app.
Concerning the “drawing” component of interactivity, how would this be possible with InDesign or plug-ins? Has anyone experimented with this or provide any avenues to pursue?
