I am having strange interface issues with InDesign since the most recent update and wondering if it is just me. I use a PC with Windows 8.1, plenty of processor power and memory and ID ran fine a month ago.

Now, dialog boxes fade in and out of being “live” and it feels like I am chasing a ghost. For example, I start typing to rename a layer, and the box suddenly goes inactive so the text pops back to the old layer name. Same with trying to draw a shape or a line, the tool becomes inactive before I complete the action so my shape or line never gets drawn!

Of course I’m on a huge deadline today and I don’t know what to do.

Anyone else dealing with this or know what to do to fix it?

indesign ran fine a month ago? meaning windows updates installed since that time? is windows trying to install win-10? inspected task-manager to see which process is hogging all the cpu? checked installation manager to see which programs installed/updated since the time indesign ran decently? tried system-restore? scanned for malware? tried uninstalling/reinstalling indesign?

Gave up for the time being. Uninstalled 2017 and went back to the 2015 version until I have time to diagnose. I realized it’s been an issue since the 2017 version came out, but has just gotten worse since last weeks CC update (expanded to more things being twitchy. At first it was just the character selection dropdown kept closing back up before I could select a typeface).

That’s bizarre! Definitely try rebuilding/resetting your preferences next time you try out CC 2017.

@David, Can’t Adobe provide some shortcut (plugin/script) to reset the annoying preferences. You know most of the users fear while making any changes to the software, deleting this and that is a nightmare for some. I think it will be a good idea to have some sort of shortcut.

Well, whatever the problem was, it seems to be fixed. I just reinstalled CC 2017 this morning and the weirdness is gone so far.
