Anchored text box doesn't allow overflow

A recent job had me notice that InDesign can't handle text overflow in anchored text box the way it does for usual text box.

In my document, I have an anchored text box with overflow. If I click on the overflow symbol, it simply doesn't work.

Is it a bug, a limitation? Do you know a workaround?

Thanks in advance for your help.

InDesign doesn't allow “anchored stories”, spanning multiple frames, just single anchored frames. It's a good thing, too, because otherwise you could link the text in an anchored frame to itself in its own parent frame, creating an infinite loop — or possibly a Mobius strip of text!

… You'll have to think of another way to get what you want.

If you thread the frames and flow text before anchoring.

Then group both text frames. And then anchor them, the text does flow from text frame to text frame.
