AI Graphs, Object Export Option and PDFs

I’m creating an accessible PDF from an InDesign document. It has many charts and graphs that I created in Illustrator. Those charts and graphs have many live text labels, legends and numbers on them. I added alt text to the AI files in the File Info… description box.
In InDesign’s Object Export Options, I set the Tagged PDF to Apply Tag: From Structure and Actual Text Source: From XMP: Description.
I exported the file, selecting “create tagged PDF”
When have Acrobat read the PDF out loud, it not only reads the alt text description of the charts, but all those labels, legends, and numbers as well.
Is there a way, short of converting all the text in the Illustrator files to outline, or making a bitmap variation of the charts, to prevent the live text in an AI file from being embedded in a PDF from InDesign file?

      Thanks!
