Adding Diacrtics with Indy Font

      Hi there

Some of the fonts that to would like to use in my work transliterating Arabic texts don’t have the necessary diacritical marks. There is another thread where the background of this is discussed, in that discussion it was suggested that i try to use IndyFont to add these marks. So i downloaded it and i have started to explore how it works.

Being a bit of a novice i wondered if i could ask a few questions here that might get better results sooner rather than later. I couldn’t find a tutorial or info on the process of how to do this and know you guys are total masters and that Theunis de Jong the developer frequents here from time to time, so i hope you guys don’t mind.

My first question is, can you make a character using the template character? I am trying to replicate the letter character exactly as it is, with the only addition being a single dot underneath, for example like the Unicode character for H: 1E24.

If this is not possible, how would you recommend going about doing this, so that it is exactly the same as the font character size, height, width etc?

I tried with a 12 point size, thinking that is the size i will use it at, and then made an outline of it (I’m presuming that creating an outline from a letter character is the best way to do it). Then i dragged this outline into IndyFont, but it looked really small, so i pulled it out and made it the right height, but then i had to position it exactly on top of the template, which wasn’t so easy to do accurately.

So secondly, how can we ensure final position accuracy in this process?

Thirdly, does it matter what font size i initially make the letter character with? Is the template character a specific size? Or can i define that?

I hope that makes sense, thank you for your time.

      Best wishes
