A way to FREEZE graphics in later chapter so that they don't move out of place?

I have a good 50 graphs in a later chapter which I carefully placed in the right place.

But….everytime I make a change in a previous chapter, such as bringing a widow line back to the previous page…BAM….those graphics move all over the place.

And sadly, that has happened twice since I placed them, and since I had already saved the document with new earlier changes, I was forced to manually move them all back in place. Major Texas groan.

I want to move another widow line over, which would bring the next chapter up two pages, but can't due to this problem.

Is there a solution that will “freeze” that later chapter with graphs?

Sounds like maybe you placed them as anchored or inline graphics. If you just place them in their own frames they shouldn't move.

Here's how to “release” inline frames:

      Not sure what you mean?

I don't want to release them. I want to freeze them onto the very page where I have I put them. That way, if I cause all pages to go up by two pages (because I removed a widowed line above this later chapter), the graphics will follow in the same place on each page within the text.

I see this paragraph within the linked page you posted: The first is to select the object and choose Object > Anchored Object > Options and change the Position from Inline to Custom. This converts the object from inline to anchored (though the object will probably move on the page). The Release command is now available from the Anchored Object submenu. Does this somehow mean that the graph will stay right where it is on that very page? And if so, it sounds like I have to do the above with each of 50 graphs, right?

Oh I see. Yes, you could probably change it to an anchored object, then set the position based on its location on the PAGE (rather than the position in the text frame). It's a tricky dialog box, but with some study you could make it do that.

With some study???? So I assume you don't have a video to help me with that. lol. I'm going to watch this and pray it helps me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..k58QVovoVc

Please see my question about the numbering. I'm confused what to do.

Doodle, I'd suggest adding additional question to the same forum thread instead of opening a different forum thread for every question. Also, you really need to watch through the whole InDesign Essential Training course on lynda.com, and perhaps get a copy of “Real World InDesign” (book). I'm really pleased that you're pushing through and learning a lot about InDesign, but we can't answer every question you might have.

As for how to number pages, there's some info here:

Sigh. It didn't help. He's using 5.5 (I'm using 5), and when he clicked on the image, there was a blue square to do the job, and I don't get a blue square when I click on my graph. I'm trying to find another video which might help….

I talk about anchored objects here:

OK, viewed another video: https://www.video2brain.com/en/…..ed-objects It's using 5.5, but he goes into detail about how the earlier versions (like my 5) would have anchored.

He explains that you Cut the image, then Paste the image, and that anchors it, making it part of the text. He proved that by highlighting the text and scrolling down to highlight the image, and both would be highlighted, showing that the image is now a part of the text. But….when I did that, it wouldn't highlight the image. Still not anchored. :( I'm so confused.

I found your video!!! https://www.lynda.com/home/Play…..e You just wanna make us work and dig, don't ya??? lol. I think it worked. I tested by removing text above it….and the graph moved up above it. WHEW. Now I have to do this with 49 other graphs. Groan.
