3-Dimensional Contrast: Principles of Photographic Lighting for the Digital Age
Software Cinema has released “3-Dimensional Contrast” By Tim Mantoanni and Bill Holshevnikoff. This DVD learning product is an update of the original “3-Dimensional Contrast” by Dean Collins. The New “3-d” is an hour long DVD, teaching the fundamentals of Light and Lighting control.
When the original “3-D” was released in 1990 it was the first educational product to explain the different qualities of light as it falls on a subject. It instructed photographers about such things as specular highlights, diffused value, and shadow edge transfers, not only giving them a lexicon for these qualities but an understanding of how to shape and control them. The original “3-D” was created as a way to teach photographers how light and shadow could be manipulated to create depth in a photograph, the representation of a 3-dimensional subject in a 2-dimensional plane (the Photograph).
The New “3-D Contrast” is a completely re-envisioned product using Dean’s original concepts and applying them to Digital Photography and Videography. With the digital revolution creating a greater interest in imaging, there has never been more need for quality education on lighting and the fundamentals of image making.
Tim Mantoani is a graduate of the Brooks Institute of Photography, and was Dean’s studio manager. In 1995 he opened his own studio and has shot for Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, as well as Coca-Cola, Ford Motor company, and many other top name clients. His articles on lighting theory have been published worldwide for the past 18 years.
Bill Holshevnikoff is an award winning Director of Photography (DP). He is recognized as one of the leading experts in the lighting industry, and has taught his “Power of Lighting” workshop around the world. He has created stunning lighting and imagery for clients such as Ritz-Carlton, Marriott Resorts, National Geographic and Mercedes-Benz.
Dean Collins was a successful commercial Photographer and Co-founder of Finelight Publishing. He was a brilliant educator and often referred to as the best presenter in the industry. He developed easily understood methods of controlling light and understanding its behavior, single handedly raising the level of competency and quality among thousands of professional photographers. He founded Software Cinema to produce comprehensive training for the digital imaging market. He passed away on February 2, 2005 after a 3 year long battle with cancer.
“3-Dimensional Contrast” can be purchased directly from Software Cinema at https://www.software-cinema.com/ . The retail price is $59.
