From the news and email I’m getting, I’m not the only person who is looking forward to a few days of rain. If nothing else, rain encourages us to stay inside and read up on what’s new in the world of InDesign! When that day finally comes, here’s some places to click:
Teacup Barcode Maker, a way to make barcodes directly in InDesign.
- Don’t forget to check out Nigel French’s new course on InDesign Typography at lynda.com. If you want one sample quickie, definitely watch this movie on Balanced Ragged Lines.
- Here’s a fun list of 30 free handwriting fonts
- Lightning Source is a great print on demand (POD) option for books, and now they have a new, cheaper color option. Here’s more about it, too.
- Issue 49 of InDesign Magazine is coming soon. As editor Mike Rankin notes, “Great time to subscribe with the current offer: 2 years (+all back issues) for $42 with the code: pennies12“
- The Annotations plug-in from DTP Tools (lets you import comment and review notes from PDF files into InDesign) has been revved to version 1.1.2.
- Adobe has a new magazine out, called Inspire! Check it out. Very pretty.
- MacMall is running its third annual Supreme Studio Makeover contest. As they say: “Targeted towards professionals in the creative fields and featuring over $14,000 in total prizes, the contest runs until August 31, 2012.” Entry information and complete contest rules can be found here.

- One of the great benefits of Adobe’s Creative Cloud is that they can roll out features to users every so often (instead of waiting for a big update once each year). That’s what they’re about to do for Illustrator users: a Package feature!
- If you aren’t a Creative Cloud member yet, check it out, as you have a few days left to sign up at a greatly reduced rate (assuming you have CS3 or later).
- InDesign users love using Adobe Muse to create web sites, and now Muse is releasing a bunch of new features, including a new Contact Form, links to any file, and improved font selection.

How can you copy pages from one InDesign document to another? This one is great!
The PDF Annotations tool is brilliant. It’s significantly cut down the time in updating articles, as our proofreader does all the changes with Annotations right in the PDF, sends it back to me, and I update it in a snap in the InDesign files.
Really cuts down on time, print outs, checking, proofing etc. We have 130 page magazine every 3 months, and has significantly cut down on waste with printed proofs.
Great minds think alike. You were working on getting your article summary together at the same time I was writing about the Adobe Creative Cloud, so we duplicate your last three bullet points.
