This Month in InDesign Articles, June 2018
News, tutorials, tips, and more from around the Web for InDesign users.
As you know, earlier this month we were all “head’s down” working on CreativePro Week. But now that it’s done for the year, it’s time to relax, look around, and explore what’s going on in the world of InDesign and publishing. Here are some fun articles and links you should probably look through:
- Steve May points out that print catalogs are more important to sales than you’d expect
- Ken Jones explains that CMYK is not a colour
- I’m a big fan of trashing you preferences when something seems really wrong in InDesign, but Colin Flashman (rightly) argues that this advice is used too often!
- Are you a scripter? If so, check out Kris Coppieters’ article How to Write an InDesign Call On Idle Script
- Need to make a lot of comb forms in InDesign? Here’s a wild method Colin came up with to do it with grep styles!
- The fact that Adobe is investing $10 million in developers who want to extend XD is fascinating… makes me think XD is going to become not just a UX tool, but a platform. Worth paying attention to. (Want more info on XD? Check out this collection of articles.)
- Want to use InDesign to create slide presentations — with animations, page transitions, bullet builds, and more? I’m amazed, but Justin has gotten this working with the newest version of in5.
- Keywords in Bridge are great, but sometimes you want to lock down which keywords your team can use. James Lockman has a fascinating solution here, with Custom Keywords.
- Here’s a good list of things every InDesign user should know how to do
- Confused about paper sizes and how they differ around the world? Chuck Green has some good references for you.
- If you haven’t subscribed to Type Magazine yet, what are you waiting for?!
- Want to learn about Applescript and InDesign? You can’t do better than the Cmd-D Down-Home Scripting Bootcamp!
- I don’t know Devangari, but if you do, I wonder if you’d find this script useful? “Convert non-unicode Devanagari text in InDesign files to Unicode and use the Utsaah font for display“
- This new little cross-reference feature makes making x-refs so much easier!
Enjoy!
