The CreativePro Weekly Top 10, vol. 1

It’s Friday and that means it’s time to make those dwindling hours of the work week dwindle a little faster with some fun and/or useful links. So without further ado, here’s first installment of the all-new CreativePro Weekly Top Ten.

Think of it as a compressed archive of interesting tidbits, timely tips, and assorted appealing randomness. Want to nominate a link for next week’s Top 10? Put it in the comments below!

1. Microsoft has opened an online store selling anti-Google goods, called Scroogled. Here you can get t-shirts, mugs, etc with creepy Chrome spiders and slogans like “I’m watching you.” Reportedly, some of the best customers are Google employees. Hmmm.

2. And speaking of Google, I’m sure they’d like to know a bit about your Lego habits. So go ahead and make something with their virtual legos at buildwithchrome.com. Just Don’t Build Evil.

3. Circos is free software that helps you create infographics, illustrations, and data visualizations. It was originally designed to visualize the human genome, so you may or may not need a Ph.D. to operate it, but it sure makes purty charts.

4. Ever need to create tables with numbered rows? You typed in all the numbers, right? It’s OK to admit it. There’s no obvious way to do it in InDesign. But there is in fact, a super-slick way to create numbered table cells. David Blatner shares the secret over at the lynda.com blog.

5. Just in time for the Mac’s 30th anniversary, iFixIt has posted a teardown of an original 128k Macintosh. If you ever wanted to see the guts of the desktop publishing revolution, now’s your chance.

6. And of course, Apple has their own celebration of the Mac’s anniversary, where you can check out a timeline of Mac history, add your own story about your first Mac, and view a short film called 1.24.14.

7. Julieanne Kost has posted a video on Hidden Gems in Photoshop CC, including goodies like placing patterns on a path, unlocking the Background layer with a single click, and choosing recent swatches.

8. CameraGPS is an iOS app that lets you geotag your photos and export the data in GPX format directly to Dropbox.

9. In the current trend of flat this and minimalist that, it’s nice to know that someone out there still has the chops to produce jaw-dropping photo realism with digital tools. Check out the Microphone Series by Blair Buttke and make sure your jaw has a soft landing spot.

10. Flag, is an app for iOS currently being funded on Kickstarter that promises you 20 high-quality 4×6 photo prints per month for free. No shipping costs either. The catch is that there will be an ad printed on the back of each photo, along with (optionally) your profile picture, camera settings, and location info, a QR code for sharing.
