SOTA, TDC, and Parsons Present TypeCon2005 During New York "Type Week"

The Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) and presenting partner the Type Directors Club (TDC) have announced speakers and additional details on TypeCon2005: Alphabet City. SOTA’s seventh annual conference will be held in New York City, July 20-24, 2005, and is hosted by Parsons School of Design.
NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg has declared July 18-24 to be “Type Week” in New York because of TypeCon2005 and related activities in the city. The mayoral proclamation offers a unique opportunity to increase public awareness about the importance of typography and design.
TypeCon2005 will offer five days of workshops, presentations, panel discussions, exhibitions, and special events designed to engage a diverse audience. The conference features more than 60 speakers from New York and around the world, including Gail Anderson, Ed Benguiat, Neville Brody, Matthew Carter, Louise Fili, Drew Hodges, House Industries, Gerard Huerta, Alexander Isley, Alessio Leonardi, Ellen Lupton, Daniel Pelavin, Paula Scher, Erik Spiekermann, Strange Attractors, and Jakob Trollbäck.
Topics for TypeCon2005 will include typography and design for publications, graffiti and tattoo lettering, the work of Eric Gill, blackletter type, design education, font development tools, design for entertainment, multilingual type design, and type in motion. TypeCon2005 will also feature the premiere of the second annual Typophile Film Festival, and the openings of major exhibitions from the TDC, SOTA, and FontFont/FUSE.
TypeCon2005 is an affordable, accessible event created for type makers and type users at every level. Its vibrant yet intimate atmosphere offers a setting where students and novices can mix comfortably with seasoned professionals and design legends.
