Sappi’s “Ideas That Matter” Program Funds Charitable Design Work
Since 1999, Sappi Fine Paper North America has offered support for designers doing charity work with a grant program called Ideas That Matter. Awards range from $5000 to $50,000 and may be used for implementation and out-of-pocket costs for things like photography, illustration, paper, printing, mailing and related expenses.
The program is open to individual designers, design firms, agencies, in-house corporate design departments, instructors, and students.
Projects must include some printed materials (Sappi is a paper company). Projects can also feature other media including websites, outdoor signage, t-shirts, and banner advertising.
Projects on topics such as socially conscious design, environmentally sustainable housing, youth design career mentorship, HIV/AIDS, and homelessness were among the winners of grants in 2011.

The deadline for applications is July 31st, and winners will be announced in September.
For more information, including a a showcase of past grant recipients, see the Ideas That Matter page at Sappi.com or check out their Facebook page.
