I feel for your colleague, I am sick to the back teeth of making all web assets in Photoshop, but Adobe doesnt seem to want to improve either a) the layout tools in Photoshop or b) the image export options in InDesign.

I would recommend exploring the Object Export options under the object menu, this has helped me. Either that or make the assets in InDesign, then import them into Photoshop as Vector Smart Objects for export.
