Is this just for personal reading? or are you looking to sell the book?

If its for personal reading, try Calibre, Sigil, or Jutoh. I’m not sure they are up to the standards of the online retailers, but if its for personal reading they will get you where you need to go. If you are planning on selling the book, look at CreateSpace (Amazon only) or BookBaby, or you could look into someone convert it for you and you can be in total control of selling it in whatever stores you want.

Regarding converting to PDF, I could be wrong, but you should be able to either Save As or Export from Word to PDF. Or are you wanting a formatted PDF that you can have printed? If so, I would again look at CreateSpace or BookBaby.
