Even though I’m grateful for the help from other posters I’m still having occasional problems with InDesgin.

What I have noticed is that if you open InDesign whilst other software is running it takes quite some time to fully load and stalls for ages at the ‘Starting up panels…’ stage. Once it is loaded its then very slow and unresponsive.

BUT – if you RESTART your computer and open InDesign FIRST – before you open any other software – including Safari / Mail etc… – it loads much quicker and then performs as normal.
