QuarkXPress 8.02 Fixes Bugs, Adds More Pantone Support

Quark Inc. has announced the release of the QuarkXPress® 8.02 update, available immediately to existing customers for download and as a free 60-day Test Drive. The release improves the installation experience, adds user interface localization for five additional languages, and builds on the rock-solid performance and reliability that customers are already experiencing with QuarkXPress 8 by addressing the most important issues reported by customers. In addition, this release adds support for the latest updates from Pantone Inc., PANTONE® Goe™ color libraries.

“We are thrilled at the positive reception QuarkXPress 8 has received from the industry, customers, and media since its launch last year,” said Terry Welty, Quark senior vice president of corporate marketing. “We have been in close contact with our QuarkXPress 8 users, and this release addresses some of the key issues we’ve heard from them and also simplifies the process of installing the application, especially in large workgroups. In addition to the existing 12 user interface languages supported in QuarkXPress 8, we are delighted to offer native user interfaces to Danish, Norwegian, Czech, Portuguese, and Finnish speaking customers.”

Additional language support

The QuarkXPress 8.02 update introduces user interface localization for five new languages: Danish, Norwegian, Czech, Portuguese (European), and Finnish. The new language features have been developed and implemented in close collaboration with key partners and customers in each of the relevant markets.

Up-to-date PANTONE color library support

Quark continues to offer its customers easy, built-in access to the most up-to-date color systems by adding support for the latest colors from Pantone (PANTONE Goe Bridge coated). “As a longstanding key partner, Quark was one of the first companies to endorse the PANTONE Goe System as the future of color specification and control,” said Andy Hatkoff, vice president of OEM and technology licensing for Pantone. “Including support for PANTONE Goe and PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® Libraries in QuarkXPress 8 empowers creative professional with all the essential PANTONE colors they need for graphic design and publishing.”

Don’t completely stop using (the slow) Quark 7 version. Quark 8.02 will randomly screen EPS black text when running separations to older RIPs & Image setters. Austin, tech support from Quark denies problems exist with the updated software – even when I showed him a PDF generated from printing seps from a Quark 8.02 file – so it’s doubtful the problem will ever get fixed. Until Quark fixes the issues – I’d stick to version 7 or In Design.
