Quark Offers a Special Upgrade Deal

Seeing an opportunity in the number of folks upset by Adobe’s subscription-only policies for the former Creative Suite apps, Quark is offering a special deal to win back customers who switched to InDesign at some point.
Now through June 30th, owners of any previous version of QuarkXPress can upgrade to version 9 and be eligible for a free upgrade to QuarkXPress 10 when it ships in August. After June 30th only QuarkXPress 8 users will be eligible to upgrade to QuarkXPress 9. And even if you don’t have some XPress floppies from the ’90s kicking around, you can still buy version 9 and get the free upgrade to 10.
Beyond the discounts, the other selling point is that you get a perpetual license to XPress instead of a subscription that you have to maintain to keep the software.
Here are some additional details from Quark’s press release on the offers:
“For the past couple of years all QuarkXPress users have been eligible to upgrade to QuarkXPress 9 for one standard price, which is a very unique policy for any software provider. It’s been a hugely popular program and we’d like to make sure all users who aren’t up-to-date can take advantage of the policy before it ends on June 30, 2013,” said Gavin Drake, vice president of marketing for Quark. “For users who are using an old version of QuarkXPress due to compatibility with their systems, the upgrade to version 9 makes sense because it is the last version that will open legacy documents from versions 3-6. Users can continue to use their previous versions knowing they have access to QuarkXPress 9 and 10 when required.”
