Quark Announces Quark Publishing System 7.4

Quark announced Quark Publishing System® (QPS®) 7.4, the second maintenance release of its industry leading collaborative workflow system. Released in October 2007, QPS 7 is based on Java™ technology, true Service Oriented Architecture, and Spring Framework Java/J2EE™, setting the new standard in advanced publishing systems. QPS 7.4 offers users additional capabilities, such as support for Mac OS® 10.5 Leopard™, full text search and LDAP support.
“QPS 7 is a completely re-engineered, open system that addresses the changing requirements that newspapers, magazines and corporate publishers face. Since its release six months ago, we’ve enhanced QPS to address even more of our customers’ editorial and creative workflow needs,” said Linda Chase, general manager of QPS for Quark. “QPS 7.4 demonstrates Quark’s focus on quality and commitment to responding quickly to customers’ requests. The new capabilities allow customers to simplify user management, gain greater flexibility in deployment options, and increase user productivity.”
“I’m pleased with Quark’s follow-through and attention to our needs. We look forward to installing QPS 7.4,” said Vickie Bales, production director of Chicago magazine. “Our migration to QPS 7 was seamless. With the help of Quark’s knowledgeable and friendly staff, we were up and running between production cycles. QPS 7 improved the way we work and brings us into the next era of publishing.”
QPS 7 brought to market an open standards-based architecture that is platform independent, scalable, fast to deploy, and that supports an unlimited number of publications and projects in one system. QPS 7.4 offers even more advanced features and functionality, such as:

  • Support for Mac OS 10.5 Leopard: QPS and its clients are now able to run on the latest version of the Mac OS.
    — Safari®: The new QPS Web Hub now runs with Apple’s Safari browser as well as Firefox®.
  • LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) Support: QPS user names and passwords can now be managed through a company’s active directory to streamline and consolidate user management.
  • Full Text Search: Users can now search document content within any assets that are stored in QPS.
  • Check-in Multiple: The ability for users to check in multiple assets at the same time saves valuable time.
  • Additional User Interface Languages: Russian and Polish interfaces are now available in QPS.

Like QPS 7, QPS 7.4 supports QuarkXPress® 7 and QuarkCopyDesk® 7, enabling real-time collaboration among editorial and creative staff by allowing them to work on publications and projects simultaneously. This release of QPS includes QPS Web Hub, a Web tool that enables users to create, edit, and preview content online, as well as manage assignments, publications, and projects remotely. Server-side scripting is also available to support integration with other publishing systems and to automate processes that streamline workflows and improve productivity.
QPS 7 is the workflow publishing system of choice for industry leaders worldwide — including Chicago magazine, Chicagoland Publishing Company, Coolwise, O’Sullivan Communications, Tuning Magazin, and Univers Workplace Benefits — to control their workflows, empower collaboration among teams, and produce quality publications on time.
