Photoshop Lightroom 2 Announced
Today, Adobe announced version 2.0 of Photoshop Lightroom, the company’s workflow application for digital photographers.
Lightroom 2 New Features
As mentioned in the coverage of the Lightroom 2 beta (which expires on August 31), the local adjustment brush (available in the Develop module) will elicit the loudest oohs and ahs. They’re easy to use and, while not universally successful with every image, should speed up processing in general.
Here are some other significant changes:
* Simplified organizational tools in the Library module
* Smart Collections
* Keyword suggestions
* Improved keyword list
* Intuitive search and filter panel
* Dual monitor support
* Additional detail view for noise reduction/sharpening work
* New camera profiles (downloadable from Adobe Labs
* 64-bit native on Mac/Windows
* Output-specific collections
* Post-crop vignetting
* Local adjustment brush and gradient filter affect exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, clarity, sharpening, and custom toning
* Output sharpening available for print sharpening or export sharpening to screen
* Print Package functionality
* Automatic cell layout for Print Package
* Print to JPEG support
* Lightroom Exchange for community plug-in interaction
Price and Availability
Photoshop Lightroom 2 costs $299; the upgrade is $99. It’s available now in English, French and German at www.adobe.com/store; the Japanese version will be released at a later date.
Recommended System Requirements
Adobe recommends the following systems to run Lightroom 2.0:
Macintosh OSX 10.4, 10.5 1 GHz PowerPC G4 or G5 or Intel(r) based processor, or Microsoft Windows(r) XP SP2 or Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise, Intel Pentium 4(r) processor, 1 GB RAM and a 1024×768 resolution screen.
