Pantone has initiated a product trade-in program called Chip In. To participate, you must be a registered owner of one or more of the following: the company’s Fashion + Home Color System, Pantone Plus Series, Starter Guide, or Capsure.
To get the rebate, you must send Pantone outdated versions of any of the above guides, books, or devices. Pantone will then recycle them and donate to a developing artists’ scholarship. Once you buy a replacement product, Pantone sends you a check. The check amount varies; lucky owners of old Fashion + Home Color Systems may get as much as $500, but Starter Guide and Pantone Plus Series owners will receive $25.

Are you wondering why you should bother? It’s not a corporate scam; you really do need new guides periodically. For one thing, the colors change over time. Also, in 2010 Pantone introduced the Plus Series, which added many new colors.
To see whether your guides are outdated, go to pantone.com/expire and click the “check if your guide expired” button.
