Online Copyright Registration Gains Momentum

The American Society of Media Photographers has long been working to promote the copyright registration of images from within various digital asset management programs. At the Microsoft Pro Photo Summit, held on June 28 & 29, 2006 in Redmond, WA, this effort gained additional momentum with interest from such major developers as Adobe, Apple, iView, Extensis, Photo Mechanic and Microsoft.
“With on-line registration by the Copyright Office on the near horizon, this feature will make it much easier to actually register your copyright and more fully protect your images,” said Richard Anderson, the chair of ASMP’s Digital Standards Committee and a principal author of the Universal Photographic Digital Imaging Guidelines (UPDIG) document.
“It has never been more important for photographers to take steps to protect their images and ensure their future value. Copyright registration is essential to this effort,” said ASMP president Clem Spalding.
