While sorting out the millions of devilish details in each new font release, the House Industries crew keeps its sanity by applying its typographical and illustrative treasures to analog substrates. House Industries introduces a new range of products with the help of expert screen printer David Dodde, some replenishable Michigan basswood and the wonders of offset lithography.
House Industries Serigraph Series
All of the 27 new serigraphs are hand-pulled, air-dried and numbered by longtime House Industries collaborator David Dodde. Slow air-drying is an essential step in Dodde’s process and allows the use of richly-pigmented inks to reach the unique deep flatness that is characteristic of high quality prints.
House Industries drew from its extensive library of typographical and illustrative treasures, including several letters from the Photo-Lettering collection. House also teamed up with designers Marilyn and John Neuhart to create a poster of their original logo as well as two of Marilyn’s doll illustrations.
Printed on acid-free 130# recycled cover stock. The posters are available from House Industries at $35 each for the large prints (26″ x 20″) and $18 each for small prints (8.5″ x 11″).
Photo-Lettering Alphabet Blocks
All nostalgia aside, there is something to be said about the pleasures of handling the physical remnants of the Photo-Lettering library. The smell of decomposing cellulose-based film, fragile glass plates, minute dabs of red opaquing and a veritable who’s who of composed logotypes are all memorable sensory experiences. For those alphabet aficionados who cannot make the culturally dynamic pilgrimage to the PLINC warehouse, House Industries is introducing this special set of Photo-Lettering blocks. These 12 blocks are made in Michigan out of replenishable, locally grown basswood and are printed with lead-free non-toxic inks. The blocks are available from House Industries at $35 per set.
House Industries Catalog No. 59
Online networking is all the rage these days, but there’s nothing like the tactile and olfactory experience of a carefully crafted example of the lithographic arts, especially when it magically arrives by virtue of the United States Postal Service. The cover of the 59th House Industries Catalog is printed on Riegel Jersey leatherette, the same paper used for House’s first mailer more than 16 years ago. House Industries mails catalogs to customers and inquirers throughout the world free of charge. Interested parties can fill out a request.
Two New Tee Shirt Designs
Always keen to recycle artwork, House Industries has released two new T-shirt designs based on the catalog no. 59 cover design and the original Photo-Lettering alphanumeric phone number. Available in mens and womens cuts.
