New Binding Guide Is Fun and Free

UK design agency the Media Collective has supplemented its Print Handbook for Designers with a small guide to binding. Like the full Handbook, the helpful binding guide combines short bits of text with images. Together, they explain the binding methods saddle stitch, loop stitch, stab stitch, perfect bound, singer sewn, and case bound. Here’s one panel of the guide:

There are two clever things about the binding guide (which the Media Collective says is the first of two on the topic). One is its construction: You download a one-page PDF, print it on a sheet of paper, and fold that into a booklet.

The second innovation is what you have to do to get the PDF. The Media Collective requires that you mention the guide in Twitter or on Facebook as “payment”.
