Metacreation's Painter 6.0
Metacreation’s Painter is a magnificent natural-media painting program. Most new users to the program will experience a strong sense of “wow” as they learn and experience its many features. Painter’s brushes, textures, and patterns are designed to mimic real-life artistic media such as watercolors, crayons, pencils, and oils; a huge array of paper types is also available, all with startling accuracy. In addition, there is a fine collection of unique special effects such as automatic cloning and something called the Image Hose, which allows a user to spray objects such as clover leaves or stones about the canvas.
New features in Painter 6 include Brush loading (which allows you to pick up a separate color on each individual bristle of a brush – way cool! – allowing you to paint multi-color strokes on scanned images or creations started from scratch), TIFF support, and Text on a Path. A nice review, Hands on Painter 6.0 if offered by Karen Charlseworth (Macworld UK) at MacWeek’s web site.
A Painter user will also find the Comprehensive Tips and Tricks Link Page a very useful resource. Here one can post, share, and read messages about Painter.
