Google Announces a Free HTML5 Development Tool: Google Web Designer
In a blog post about its DoubleClick advertising platform, Google has announced it will be releasing “a new HTML5 creative development tool” called Google Web Designer. Few other details are available at this point, other than the fact that Google Web Designer will be available “in the coming months”, and it will “empower creative professionals to create cutting-edge advertising as well as engaging web content like sites and applications – for free.”

The initial announcement clearly shows that Google Web Designer is intended for use in creating ads. But you have to wonder, with its infinite resources, and now an interest in “re-imagined creative tools” if someday Google would release full-featured (and free) alternatives to Adobe’s creative apps. Far fetched? Maybe. But a company that’s developing driverless cars and wants you to wear the Internet on your face is capable of just about anything if they thought it was in the greater interest of their business. Stay tuned on this one.
