Fonts.com Web Fonts Releases API, Plus WordPress, Drupal, & Joomla! Plug-ins

Press Release
Monotype Imaging Holdings Inc., a leading global provider of text imaging solutions, has introduced its Fonts.com Web Fonts API (application programming interface), which enables developers to integrate the Fonts.com Web Fonts solution in Web applications, providing users with the ability to tap into Monotype Imaging’s extensive Web font offering. Also new are plug-ins for the open source WordPress, Drupal and Joomla! content management systems. Using any of these popular CMS offerings, users are able to create websites that support Fonts.com Web Fonts.
“We’re building on the momentum of last month’s commercial launch of our Web font solution,” said Chris Roberts, vice president of marketing at Monotype Imaging. “We believe Web fonts should be as easy to use as picking up a pen to write, whether you’re creating a website, writing a blog or engaging on a social networking site. Our new API and plug-ins are a significant step toward making Web fonts extremely easy to use, while opening access to an unrivalled selection of high-quality typefaces.”
The Fonts.com Web Fonts API enables developers to integrate Web fonts into applications and cloud-based CMS products, which are designed to provide users with simplified methods for publishing Web content to websites. Monotype Imaging’s new open source WordPress, Drupal and Joomla plug-ins, all based on the company’s API, feature a WYSIWYG editor, which allows text to display instantly in a chosen Web font while the user is typing. “Our new plug-ins demonstrate what can be done with our API,” said Roberts. “Developers benefit with a high level of flexibility for building apps that allow users to more easily and conveniently stylize Web content.”
In addition to CMS offerings, applications that can take advantage of the Fonts.com Web Font API include social networking sites, commercial services, weblogs, forums, and other content creation and publishing apps. Using Monotype Imaging’s solution, Web apps provide access not only to thousands of typeface designs but also support for more than 40 languages, covering the majority that are used online. Patent-pending Web technology speeds the delivery of text set in languages containing thousands of characters, such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Information about obtaining the Fonts.com Web Fonts API, as well as the WordPress, Drupal and Joomla plug-ins, are available from https://webfonts.fonts.com/developers. In order to use Monotype Imaging’s Web fonts, users of the plug-ins or supported applications must have accounts with Fonts.com Web Fonts.
