Deadline Extended for ID CS3 Re-Certification

5

Adobe informed its trainers today that people who are InDesign CS2 Adobe Certified Experts (ACEs) have until May 31, 2008 to take and pass the InDesign CS3 re-certification exam and thus remain current with their ACE status. (Otherwise they lose their certification and have to “start over” with the the full exam, which is more expensive, longer, and can only be taken at a proctored location.) The new date is a full month past the original deadline of April 30, 2008.

So all you CS2 ACEs I spoke with at the InDesign Conference this week who were freaking out about it can relax and enjoy the seminars!

The deadline was extended because the first versions of both the re-certification and the full InDesign CS3 exam were so poorly constructed that Adobe took the unprecendented and VERY WELCOME step of revising them. The new tests were released just a few weeks ago, and those who took and failed the first version were granted a free retake. Since Adobe needs to give potential test-takers time to prepare for the test — historically, Adobe sets the deadline at 90 days from the date the test is released — it makes sense for them to add an extra month in there.

Though InDesignSecrets contributors and readers may have been the first ones to yell long and hard about the idiocy of the first versions of this critical exam, credit for actually doing something about it must go to Tim Cole (Adobe’s InDesign/InCopy evangelist) and his colleagues at Adobe. So, a big round of applause for all of you!

Is there anybody who knows, if the certification exam in german language is revised yet?

  • ruebi says:

At the german website of Adobe there was no test for InDesign CS3 up to now. That means, there is nothing to correct ;-)
But at the website from http://www.prometric.com there is a test for Indesign CS3 in english, french and german available.
I don´t know if this certification can really reserved or if the translation is equivalent to the actual revised english test.

  • Had I read these news earlier I would have saved several late nite test preparation hours, but despite a extended daily work time, I havehurrily taken last Monday and this evening the ReCert exams for IDCS3 and AICS3.
The first was really tough, very complex, and requires more than studying, real practice/experience with long document features and doc. layout options. On the other side the AI test is marred with questions with 2 valid answers, other dark procedures, and a very bad wording of the questions. I found hard to understand the scenarios and some descriptions are strange and use some uncommon terms like shapes meaning (likely) the stroke or contour of objects. Several Bridge questions and advanced Save for Web ones.

Happily I have got flying colors on both (well, just 3 misses on each). Thus good luck for everyone who will take them on May. Now I will get current on the topics of this extraordinaire site full of rich and valuable info and comments.

  • Wouldn’t you know . . . I just took this test in a panic tonight (nothing like waiting until the last minute!) and passed. Thought I’d pop over to IDsecrets to see what was up and saw this post. I did pretty well considering we’ve had the software for several months but I haven’t actually used it for any projects yet. : ) Hey, I’m just glad it’s over.

I took the full exam this morning for the first time and failed. Now, I completely understand the horror stories. Mind you, I work with Indy daily and found myself spending time trying to comprehend what each question is actually asking!

If they did revised current set of questions, they sure need to clean it up again.
