A Data Merge Script for Outputting to Individual Files
If you need instruction on using InDesign’s Data Merge features, Colin Flashman is your guy. He covered the essential techniques in InDesign Magazine issue 52.
And his recent post on troubleshooting common Data Merge errors is an invaluable resource to anyone struggling to get data merge to work.
He also wrote up topics like creating sequential numbers in data merge, the pitfalls of packaging data merge files, as well as how to produce separate PDFs for each record.
And now Colin’s improved the process of outputting records to individual files, by developing a script (currently in beta status) for that purpose! And even better, you can use Colin’s script conjunction with Peter Kahrel’s batch output script to output records to separate interactive PDFs, JPGs, PNGs, EPS files, etc.
You can read about Colin’s script, download it, and watch instructional videos that Colin produced at his website, colecandoo.com.
