Artistry Retreats and Tutorials: Corel Painter Quick Start for Photographers

Photographers who want to learn Corel Painter and don’t have a lot of time to do it turn to Karen Sperling’s Artistry Retreats and Artistry tutorials for a quick start.
“I have photographers up and running in Painter in three days at my Artistry Retreats,” says Karen, who is the author of the original Painter manuals and has been teaching and writing about the software longer than anyone.
Many photographers, including Grey Darrah (https://darrahphoto.com) say that they make back the cost of the class and travel expenses with a painted portrait sale as soon as they return home.
“I made back what I paid to attend the class several times over with my first portrait. That’s a great return on my investment!” says Darrah. “I completely used everything that I learned from the retreat and could never have done this without having been shown all of the basics (and much, much more) from Karen.”
At the Artistry Retreats, photographers learn not only the Painter steps, but also the art concepts that they need to be able to either completely turn a photo into a painting or add painterly effects with Painter.
For those who can’t make it to an Artistry Retreat, Karen has a set of three Artistry CDs for Painter IX. These include the Artistry Beginners CD, the Artistry Painting for Photographers CD and the Artistry Tips and Tricks..the First Six Months CD. The CDs contain Acrobat files with images and written step-by-step instructions for turning photos into paintings, written by Karen, who authored several Painter books and who regularly contributes Painter tutorials to print publications and web sites. All of the tutorials are also available individually as downloadable files from Karen’s web site (https://www.artistrymag.com).
Kathy Falls, PPA Certified, Master Artist, M.E.I.,Cr. (www.kathyfallsstudio.com) won top honors in a photo competition sponsored by American Photographic Artists Guild (www.apag.net), a Professional Photographers of America affiliate, and she credits Artistry tutorials for getting her going in Painter.
“When I first started using Painter I ordered many of Karen Sperling’s Artistry tutorials and they were extremely helpful in getting me started in Painter,” says Kathy. “I liked the options of ordering the tutorials I felt would most benefit me.”
Like many photographers, Kathy preferred the Acrobat format of the Artistry tutorials.
“I liked the Acrobat format. It was easy to work with my computer following the steps outlined in the tutorials. I find them much easier to use than videos as far as training is concerned.”
