Among the many changes brought on by the coming of Creative Cloud, is a shift in the policies regarding the Adobe Certified Expert program. Adobe has posted a FAQ guide to the changes, which includes the following points:
- Certifications in Creative Cloud applications like Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator will last for one year after the date you pass the exam. After that, you will have 90 days to recertify, or lose your status as an Adobe Certified Expert.
- You do not have take a recertification exam each time a product is updated.
- The process of registering for and taking an ACE exam is unchanged. PearsonVUE is still the exam provider.
- To qualify for recertification in a CC product, you must have passed a CS6 ACE exam for that product.
The reason given for the change in policy is that with Creative Cloud, new features will be added to applications on a regular basis, even though the product names will stay the same. Unlike the past, when the feature set for a specific version of an application stayed the same, CC apps will always be evolvling. Photoshop CC will be different a year from now, even though it will be called “Photoshop CC.”
As of this writing, recertification exams are available for Photoshop CC, Dreamweaver CC, and Premiere Pro CC. A certification exam for Muse CC is also available.
