      Hi All,

I work as an artwork/branddesigner for a company that imports LED-lighting products.
on all our packagings there are a lot of values that show the technical properties of the item in question.
I now have a base Indesign document where all these values are in text variables.

we receive our technical data-sheets as standardized Excel documents.
I’m looking for a way to fill the variables in my Indesign doc with values directly from these Datasheets.
Anyone here who knows of a script that allows me to do just that?
of course it can be from a .CSV file instead also.

If its a daily based job, you should invest in a third party plugin such as EasyCatalog. Of course, you could use free workaround like importing Excel sheet inside InDesign, use csv in combination with datamerge or for the most adventurous, XML, but as some point, you will have needs that can only be filled with a professional solution.
      For me, it’s no debate.

      Hi Willy,

it is not a problem, to import a .csv in your document. But the goal is to spread the data in the correct places. So a script solution cannot be a free generic one. EasyCatalog can be a solution, but involves also training on the job. Whatever you choose, it depends on your project. If you interested, you can sent me a example of your .csv and a testdocument to forum@ruebiarts.de

You know my position on this point! I remain always less categorical! ;-)

      Willy,

Could we have more details? [screenshots]
